Chris, ex member of Genesis, eternal optimist and itinerant sheep shearer, falls in love with the first house he sees in Andalucia, deep within southern rural Spain, and moves there with his wife Ana to a mountain finca.
No water, electricity or even access road, and strangely idiosyncratic neighbours, was this really the right place to move to, with his wife and very soon, new daughter?
But the mountains, the olives, almonds and lemons draw the whole family to a new life and over time, they make it their own.
I was bewitched by this book. I think anyone who loves travel, strange new places and the thought of setting up a new life ‘Far from the Madding Crowd’ would too. It stands very well on it’s own as a book, but I also enjoy the other two ‘Lemons’ books, ‘A Parrot in the Pepper Tree.’ and ‘The Almond Blossom Appreciation Society’. A five star read.
